In 2024, the Payments team had 30+ designers working on 4 main workstreams focused on the branded online checkout experiences. These teams lacked operational rhythms, or a means to track progress.
Today, the Payments team is a dynamic team of 60+ designers working on workstreams across online, offline, and agentic commerce experiences.
Defining and implementing programs from 0 -> 1
Overview
I came onto the Payments team during a time of transformation for the product and design organizations. Early 2024, the company kicked-off the largest design update to the online checkout experience. One that has ~350 million users annually, and is responsible for the vast majority of revenue for the company.
Without any documented ways of working, system for tracking programs, Design Managers and Directors struggled to know the basics of what their teams worked on. Let alone, their teams capacity.
My role was to lift up a program to support the redesign of the checkout experience while transforming the organization’s operations.
What I Did
Setup a system to track progress on milestones for design projects on Asana. Trained and onboarded the design and product teams.
Developed operational rhythms teams such as grooming, intake, prioritization, engineering hand offs, and design reviews.
Created mechanisms for cross team communication between design, product, engineering and legal teams.
Influenced leadership in product and engineering to bring design into strategic planning and roadmapping decisions.
